About the IS
A twin-engine ground-attack aircraft designed for low-level penetration. India is the last major operator, with the DARIN-III upgrade adding AESA radar, new avionics, and precision munitions.
History
Service history
Inducted from 1979 as the IAF's dedicated deep-strike platform. Assigned nuclear delivery role for decades. Being replaced gradually by Rafale and Tejas Mk2 as engines age out of production.
