About the BrahMos
The BrahMos (also designated as PJ-10) is a long-range, ramjet-powered supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, fighter aircraft or TEL. It is a joint venture between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya, who together have formed BrahMos Aerospace. The missile is based on P-800 Oniks.
Service history
BrahMos Aerospace was formed in 1998 as an Indo-Russian joint venture, taking its name from the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers. The missile entered service in 2007 and is now deployed in ship, submarine, land and air-launched forms — the only cruise missile in Indian service common to all three branches. The Philippines became the first export customer in 2022.
